Brahmanbaria is the second largest and traditional town and Titus River side city in the middle eastern region of Bangladesh, the mother of the river. Brahmanbaria was established in 1769 as the oldest municipality in Bangladesh. After independence, on 29 April 1985, the then Hon'ble Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Major General M Shamsul Haque laid the foundation stone of a health scheme known as NI Bhuiyan Health Scheme. On April 28, 1992, the then Honorable Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Begum Khaleda Zia laid the foundation stone for converting this health center into Brahmanbaria District Headquarters Hospital. After the completion of the construction of the hospital, on October 28, 1995, Mr. Alhaj Harun Al Rashid Brahmanbaria, the then Honorable State Minister of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, inaugurated the operation of this hospital under the name of 100-bed modern hospital. Since its inception, Sadar Hospital's range of medical services has been increasing day by day and has started to gain recognition as the only top medical institution in the district. In order to increase the quality of medical services of the people, on October 20, 2006, the then Chairperson of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society and Public Accounts Committee, Mr. Advocate Harun Al Rashid, M. P. Brahmanbaria laid the foundation stone of the project to upgrade the 100-bed modern hospital to 250 beds. After laying the foundation stone, the construction work started and on 12 May 2010, Hon'ble Prime Minister of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, inaugurated the operations of the 250-bed Brahmanbaria District Headquarters Hospital. Medical services in hospitals were improving day by day and new facilities were required to increase the services. In addition, some services in specialized hospitals are yet to be introduced. As part of this, on May 18, 2011, the Honorable Member of Parliament of Brahmanbaria-3 Constituency of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. R. A. M. Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury inaugurated the third and fourth floor extension and cardiology department of the hospital. At various times, the name of the hospital has changed and all know it as 250 Bedded General Hospital, Brahmanbaria. The people of this district and some neighboring districts also come to this hospital for medical treatment. The quality of medical care in this hospital is much better than other district headquarter hospitals. Day by day new services are being added to the hospital, which is a boon to the people of this district. We have liquid oxygen plant and central oxygen line for the treatment of patients, which was inaugurated by the Honorable Member of Parliament of Brahmanbaria-3 Constituency of the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, War Wounded Freedom Fighter Mr. R. A. M. Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury. Currently the hospital has added various specialized services including neonatal intensive care unit, echocardiography for cardiac treatment. The Honorable Member of Parliament of Brahmanbaria-3 Constituency of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. R. A. M. Ubaidul Moktadir Chowdhury, inaugurated these two services. New diagnostic tests have been added to routine pathology tests, such as dope test, troponin I, serum electrolytes are notable. VIA and Colposcopy tests are done regularly for screening to prevent cervical cancer. Dialysis services and CCU and ICU units are being added soon. The hospital has 24 hours 7 days safe natural delivery facility. Government of Bangladesh has recognized it as a child and women friendly hospital. There is also a breastfeeding corner. It is hoped that many more services that are new will be added in the future and the people of Brahmanbaria will benefit.
